Klein ISD’s board of trustees has a new president, and a newly elected trustee joined the board Dec. 8.

What’s changed

Doug James—who previously served as board vice president—was unanimously approved as the new board president during trustees’ Dec. 8 meeting. Before James was selected, former board president Rob Ellis said the board reshuffles leadership positions annually in December.

Former secretary Dustin Qualls was selected as the new board vice president, and trustee Nicole Peters will serve as secretary.

“We’d like to ... No. 1, thank the board for entrusting us to take us to the next step,” James said. “We always looked at this thing as a relay race, and [Ellis] has extended his arm back, and we’re taking the baton and making sure that we’re aligned with the goals and the principles of Klein ISD moving forward.”

James was first elected to KISD’s board in November 2017, as previously reported by Community Impact.

On Dec. 8, Dustin Creager was sworn in as KISD’s newest trustee after he was elected by voters during the Nov. 4 election, as previously reported. Creager will serve in Position 3 after former trustee Chris Todd resigned in May.

Ellis won Position 7 again in the Nov. 4 election, and trustee Cathy M. Arellano was reelected to Position 6 after running unopposed.
