What to expect
After Senate Bill 569 was approved by Texas lawmakers in May, public schools across the state were granted the option to consider adding virtual or hybrid options for students, according to the Texas Legislature Online. On Aug. 11, KISD trustees will evaluate whether the district should pursue virtual or hybrid programs under this law.
At the meeting, trustees will also potentially call for an election to be held Nov. 4 for trustee spots 3, 6 and 7, according to meeting documents. Position 7 is currently held by board President Rob Ellis, while Position 6 is held by Cathy M. Arellano.
Position 3 is held by Georgan Reitmeier, who filled the spot June 1 after former trustee Chris Todd vacated the position May 31. The trustee spot is required to go up for election for the remaining two years left in the seat.
