Spring- and Klein-area parents can enroll their children in one of YES Prep’s newest charter school campuses—YES Prep North Rankin Elementary School—through Feb. 17.

The campus opened for the 2024-25 school year serving students in pre-K through second grade. Third grade will be added for the 2025-26 school year, followed by fourth grade in 2026-27 and fifth grade in 2027-28, according to prior Community Impact reporting.

How it works

Parents can sign up for an admissions lottery through Feb. 17. The lottery system is used when there are more students interested in attending the school than classroom space.

Officials said submissions received after Feb. 17 will be waitlisted. Families will learn the lottery results on Feb. 21.

Submissions received after the deadline will be automatically waitlisted in the order their applications were received. Families will be informed of the lottery results on Feb. 21, according to a news release.

In Texas, public charter schools are tuition-free and can have more flexibility than traditional public school districts as they are exempt from some hiring and curriculum requirements.

YES Prep has 24 campuses across the Greater Houston area and serves 20,000 students, according to the release. Two additional campuses are opening this August.

The charter school district has a focus on preparing students for college. All students have access to free meals, free uniforms, electronic devices, transportation, special education, English language learning, health care, mental health and other support services, officials said.
