In a nutshell
SISD trustees unanimously voted to approve the district’s recommended instructional calendar, Option B, on Dec. 10 with trustee Carmen Correa absent. The calendar is required to include a minimum of 75,600 instructional minutes, according to Dec. 3 board meeting presentation materials.
According to SISD leaders, the approved calendar will include:
- A start date of Aug. 12, 2025 for students; the first day of school for the 2024-25 school year was Aug. 14, 2024
- An end date of May 29, 2026 for students; the last day for the 2024-25 school year will be May 30, 2025
- Summer school held from June 5-July 2, 2026
- One additional professional development day for teachers on June 1, 2026.

Another calendar choice, Option A, was presented to the community to consider alongside Option B. Voting was held online in November, and 66% of respondents—out of almost 5,300—preferred Option B, according to SISD presentation materials.
