Spring ISD has partnered with the Houston Food Bank to distribute groceries to up to 250 families in need twice per month, according to an Oct. 11 news release from the school district.

The framework

On Oct. 8, SISD’s Family and Community Engagement Department held its first School Market with the Houston Food Bank, enlisting 20 Westfield High School students to pass out food to local families, according to the release. A second event is scheduled for Oct. 22, and future events will be held the second and fourth Tuesday of each month.

“It is clear by the sheer number of families here that the need is great, and we are blessed to be able to meet our families’ most basic needs,” said Tranita Carroll, executive director of Family and Community Engagement for SISD, in a statement. “The Houston Food Bank makes it possible to us to do this, and we are so thankful for them.”

Locals who attended the event received grains, meat, fresh fruit and canned vegetables, per the release.
