The overview
The recognition is coming through TASA’s annual Texas Honor School Board program, which recognizes outstanding Texas school boards for making positive impacts on public school students, according to the release. KISD’s school board was previously named the 2024 Region 4 Board of the Year in June.
KISD’s board of trustees include:
- President Cathy Arellano
- Vice President Dustin Creager
- Secretary Doug James
- Trustee Ronnie Anderson
- Trustee Rob Ellis
- Trustee Dustin Qualls
- Trustee Chris Todd
According to the release, the five finalists were selected by a committee comprised of Texas superintendents. The selection committee’s decisions were based on criteria that include:
- Support for educational performance
- Support for educational improvement projects
- Commitment to a code of ethics
- Maintenance of harmonious and supportive relationships among board members
- “This prestigious recognition further validates what we already know to be true in Klein, Texas: We are led by one of the absolute finest school boards anywhere,” KISD Superintendent Jenny McGown said in a statement. “These incredible servant leaders, all current or former Klein ISD parents and several who are Klein ISD graduates themselves, give their all for our Klein students, staff and families, and I could not be more proud or happy for this exceptional team of trustees.”
- “This honor shines a spotlight on the incredible synergy of our board of trustees, educators and the entire Klein community,” Arellano said in a statement. “It is a reminder that when we work together to bring our shared vision to life by doing what is best for our kids and Klein, we achieve excellence for our students.”
KISD’s school board will travel to San Antonio on Sept. 27 for the Texas Association of School Boards' and TASA’s joint annual convention, where one of the five finalists will be named as TASA’s 2024 Outstanding School Board.
