“Although we have many large-scale projects coming, we are currently working on safety and security upgrades, technology improvements, maintenance projects and design improvements at campuses across SISD as well,” said Mark Miranda, SISD chief of district operations, via the news release.
Recently completed bond projects include the following:
- Nineteen SUVs were bought to replace older vehicles in SISD’s police department.
- Security fences were added at Major Elementary School and Eickenroht Elementary School.
- Interior walls were repainted at Beneke Elementary School and Bailey Middle School.
Bond projects that are next on the list for SISD officials include the following:
- Spring High School’s remodel and the district’s new Education Performance and Instruction Center are being designed after SISD’s school board approved a pool of vendors on Aug. 8.
- More vehicles, including new school buses, will soon be ordered.
- Security fences will be installed at Ponderosa Elementary School.
- Interior walls will be repainted at multiple schools throughout the district.
- New 75-inch interactive flat panel devices will be distributed to schools for classroom learning.
- Metal detectors will be added to more campuses.
SISD's $850 million bond package was approved by voters during the Nov. 8 election and comprises three propositions:
- Proposition A allocates $681 million to fund campus improvements, including rebuilding Spring High School and renovating Westfield High School along with Reynolds and Jenkins elementary schools.
- Proposition B slates $141 million for the construction of an Education Performance and Instructional Center, which will be used for district events, such as graduation and convocation; academic, athletic and performing arts events; University Interscholastic League competitions; and expos.
- Proposition C funds $28 million in districtwide technology upgrades, such as replacing teacher laptops, adding laptop charging stations to classrooms, upgrading computer labs, enhancing districtwide cybersecurity and updating the district’s telephone system.
