All Spring ISD employees who began working for the district on or before May 12 will receive a bonus in August, according to a June 14 news release from the district.

How we got here

SISD trustees unanimously approved a incentive package on June 8, according to the release. If 95% of teachers remain with SISD, the retention stipends will cost an estimated $10.6 million, as previously reported by Community Impact.

Quote of note

“We are happy that we are able to offer these incentives to our staff, and grateful to our board of trustees for approval,” Superintendent Lupita Hinojosa said in a statement.

The specifics

The bonuses will be paid in one sum on employees’ Aug. 10 paycheck and will be based on employees’ experience level:
  • Teachers with 10 or more years of experience—at SISD or at another district: $3,000
  • Teachers with five to nine years of experience: $2,500
  • Teachers with four years of experience or less and all other district staff: $2,000
The bonuses will be paid for with the district’s Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund II grant, which is set to expire Sept. 30, according to the Texas Education Agency’s website. Federal income tax will apply to the bonuses, according to the news release.

In case you missed it

SISD paid employees a similar retention incentive package for the 2022-23 school year. Originally approved in April 2022, the package awarded about $7.8 million in bonuses to teachers, according to SISD.
