Spring ISD’s newest campus, Momentum High School, will offer a blend of virtual and in-person learning to students in the upcoming school year, according to a June 6 news release from the district.

About 150 students have opted to attend Momentum in the fall semester of the 2022-23 school year, according to the news release. The campus will offer different opportunities than a traditional campus, such as smaller class sizes and personalized learning plans.

“Some students thrive on a large high school campus as one of thousands of students, but some students can feel really lost in that setting,” Momentum Principal Stacey Smith said via the June 6 news release. “Here at Momentum, whether a student is celebrating a success—like completing a course credit—or going through a tough time, somebody’s going to notice."

Momentum will be a school of choice at SISD, according to the news release—students must apply and be accepted before attending.

In the fall, Momentum will be located at 1001 Southridge Rd., Houston, which is behind Westfield High School. A maximum of 375 students are expected at Momentum in the 2023-24 semester, when the campus will be relocated to a larger facility.

At Momentum, students will devote four days per week to in-class learning while the remaining day will be designated for off-campus college-readiness courses, dual-credit courses and industry certifications, according to the news release. Students can also take accelerated credit recovery courses, earning up to one year’s worth of course credits per semester.

The campus will serve students ages 13-26.

“The vision for Momentum came from us asking the question: How do we as a district provide different learning environments that will allow all of our students to gain the knowledge and skills they need?” SISD Chief of Innovation Matt Pariseau said via the news release.

Momentum will also host a Virtual Learning Program for all high school students in SISD where students can recover credits as needed through virtual course work while remaining enrolled in their original campus, according to the news release.

“We know that different students have unique learning needs and thrive in different learning environments, and we’re very excited as a district to bring this new school of choice offering to our Spring ISD community,” SISD Superintendent Lupita Hinojosa said via the news release.

Smith is currently looking for more teachers as the program expands in the future, according to the news release.
