Lone Star College-North Harris received a grant totaling more than $1.5 million for the college’s TRIO Educational Talent Search program, officials announced in an Oct. 25 news release.
The TRIO ETS program provides a variety of free support services to help first-generation and low-income students successfully complete secondary school, officials said. The program also helps students prepare to complete the postsecondary education of their choice.
“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to continue to support our incredible TRIO ETS students in achieving their educational goals,” TRIO ETS Manager Courtney Mai said in a statement. “All TRIO ETS staff members were the first in our families to complete a college degree, so we know firsthand how beneficial it is to continue education beyond high school.”
Through the program, participants receive free access to advising, college application assistance, financial literacy workshops, tutoring, college campus tours, standardized test preparation and scholarship assistance.
The grant, which is fully funded through the U.S. Department of Education, will operate through Aug. 31, 2026, and will serve a total of 542 students from Spring, Klein and Aldine ISDs.
