Spring ISD trustees Donald Davis and Jana Gonzales—who represent positions 6 and 7, respectively—announced at the June 22 board meeting they are both retiring from the board of trustees, effective July 1.

District officials said the board is now accepting applications to temporarily fill their vacancies until the Nov. 2 elections are held to fill both positions.

Gonzales, who has served on the board for 15 years, said at the meeting she was stepping down because she is moving out of the district.

“I will miss everyone in Spring ISD,” Gonzales said. “This will always be my home. I may be moving out of the district, but I will never stop supporting Spring ISD. Thank you for allowing me to serve this wonderful district.”

Davis, who has served on the board for six years said, while he is stepping down from his position, he would still remain active within the district.

“We all have different political beliefs,” he said. “We come from different walks of life. We have different values, but there was a common bond on this board: We always put our students first.”

Officials said interested candidates can apply by emailing [email protected] or submitting an application in person to the SISD Office of the General Counsel by 5 p.m. July 12.

Board members will review applications and determine which applicants will be invited for an interview. SISD officials said the board plans to fill vacancies, pending identification of qualified candidates, by appointment during its Aug. 5 work session.
