Klein ISD board members approved the construction of a new center for the district's Therapeutic Education Program, along with other renovations, in an emergency virtual board meeting April 27.

The $11.9 million project will demolish the existing Teaching and Learning Center, which is located at 4411 Louetta Road, Spring, to serve as the site for the new Therapeutic Education Program center. The project will also include minor renovations to KISD's central office building, located at 7200 Spring Cypress Road, Spring, and fund the addition of temporary buildings at the central office site to relocate Teaching and Learning Center employees. The project will be incorporated into the budget for the 2015 bond, a $498.1 million bond approved by voters on May 9, 2015.

KISD's Therapeutic Education Program provides special education services to students from kindergarten though post-secondary students who are in developmental education up to age 22.

KISD district officials also approved to award a $1.5 million construction manager-at-risk contract to Satterfield and Pontikes Construction, Inc. for the Northampton Elementary School Renovation Project, which was originally approved on March 16 and is also part of the 2015 bond. A guaranteed maximum price for the project is expected in June.
