Students in many Texas school districts, including Spring and Klein ISDs, may have experienced technical problems Tuesday while taking State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness tests, state officials said. According to the Texas Tribune, Community Impact Newspaper's reporting partner, Texas Education Agency spokesperson DeEtta Culbertson said more than 100,000 students were taking the test when the problem was noted, but because the disruption was scattered across the state it is difficult to determine how many students were affected. Spring ISD experienced technical difficulties around noon Tuesday, SISD Communications Director Karen Garrison said. "Based on the information we currently have, it is our understanding that the same difficulties were experienced by other districts across the state," Garrison said. "Like other districts, we experienced the same difficulties last year." Approximately 345 Klein ISD students were affected by technical interruptions from 11:15 to 11:35 a.m. Tuesday, said Judy Rimato, KISD associate superintendent for communications and planning. "We were in contact with TEA regarding this issue," Rimato said. According to the Texas Tribune report, in 2016, the results of tests taken by fifth- and eighth-graders were scrapped by Education Commissioner Mike Morath after 14,000 tests were disrupted. STAAR testing will continue throughout this week.
