At its regular meeting Monday night, the Klein ISD board of trustees swore in two trustees, congratulated a retiring employee and approved the name of a new intermediate school.

  1. The board approved Hofius Intermediate School as the name for Intermediate School No. 10. The school is expected to open in August 2018. Hofius was the last name of a woman who moved to the Klein area in 1846 and married Peter Wunderlich in 1852, school officials said. The Wunderlichs were a founding family in Klein.

  2. The board swore in two trustees who won seats in the Nov. 7 election. Incumbent Georgan Reitmeier won an uncontested race for Position 1 and Doug James won a contested race with 38.4 percent of the vote for Position 2.

  3. The board unanimously voted for Bill Pilkington to remain board president, for Ronnie Anderson to take over as vice president and for Cathy Arellano to take over as secretary.

  4. The board of trustees honored Thomas Petrek, who retired recently after working in the school district for 26 years. Petrek served as chief financial officer for the district after taking the position in 1998.

  5. The board approved design plans for recovery and restoration at Lemm Elementary School. The school sustained flood damage from Hurricane Harvey in August.

The board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for Jan. 16, 2018.
