The Klein ISD board of trustees met Monday in the board room at 7200 Spring Cypress Road, Spring. Here are three highlights from the monthly meeting:

  1. The board recognized three new school principals: Thomas Hensley of Klein Oak High School, Megan White of Blackshear Elementary School and Charles Woods of Klein Intermediate School. Hensley was previously the principal of Doerre Intermediate School, White was the assistant principal at Schultz Elementary School and Woods was the assistant principal of Klein Forest High School.

  2. The board unanimously approved a motion to hold an election Nov. 7 for two three-year seats. One position is open because Steven Smith resigned from the board in June, and an additional seat is available because Georgan Reitmeier's term ends in December.

  3. The board unanimously approved a motion to hire a police officer for Klein Cain High School, which opens in August. According to the meeting's agenda packet, high schools throughout the district normally staff three police officers, but due to the smaller student body of the high school's first year, one officer will be sufficient. The school will initially serve ninth- and 10th-grade students.

The next board meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Aug. 14 at 7200 Spring Cypress Road, Spring.
