With several locations across the Greater Houston area, Julio’s Mexican Grill serves authentic Mexican and Tex-Mex cuisine in Magnolia, Spring and The Woodlands.
Meet the team
Named after co-owner Julio Amer, the restaurants are owned and operated by a family of cousins, including Everardo Funes, Julio Almer and Juan Carlos Almer.
The original Julio's Mexican Grill opened in Magnolia in 2013. Due to the demand for their menu, which comprises 80% authentic Mexican food and 20% Tex-Mex, the restaurant expanded with a second location in The Woodlands in 2018 followed by a third location in Spring in 2022, Funes said.
Funes said the locations were chosen in communities where they felt traffic would bring customers. Funes runs the Spring location while Julio Almer operates The Woodlands restaurant and Juan Carlos Almer takes care of the Magnolia location.
On the menu
Julio’s Mexican Grill provides homemade Mexican authentic dishes and Tex-Mex with tortillas made from scratch.
“We wanted it to be like our grandmother's cooking,” Funes said.
With 25 years of experience, chef Alvaro Quevedo offers Mexican cuisine inspired by the family's Yucatan Mexican flavors.
“The inspiration was to bring something from our country; the three of us are from Mexico, Yucatan. So it's like a specific region with plenty of flavors and plenty of different things,” Funes said.
Some customer favorites include chile con queso, birria tacos, fajitas and Mexican pizza, which is made with tacos al pastor ingredients.
Along with an extensive selection of appetizers, tacos, fajitas, combination plates, seafood and enchilada menus, the restaurant offers over 10 flavors of margaritas and a full bar.
Staying local
In addition to serving quality food, the restaurant also focuses on having reasonable prices and providing the best service, Funes said.
Some offers the restaurant provides include free meals for children under age 12 with the purchase of a dish on Sundays, fajitas for two for $29.99 on Mondays, half-price tacos on Tuesdays and a free margarita with the purchase of one on Thursdays.
Funes said Julio's Mexican Grill maintains its community involvement by catering events, holding spirit nights and sponsoring local schools, including Klein Collins High School and Roth Elementary School.
