P. Terry’s Burger Stand announces opening of new Spring location

Austin-based P. Terry’s Burger Stand opened a Spring location April 7 on Champion Forest Drive, part of the chain’s growing presence in the Greater Houston area.

P. Terry's offers a menu of hamburgers, chicken sandwiches and veggie burgers, as well as breakfast sandwiches, which are served until 11 a.m. daily.

I-45 Diner debuts long-awaited 2nd location on Kuykendahl road

I-45 Diner opened a second location in Spring, a spokesperson from the business confirmed at the beginning of January.

The restaurant serves breakfast staples, such as pancakes, waffles and breakfast burritos; American fare, such as pot roast and chicken fried steak; and Tex-Mex cuisine, including fajitas and enchiladas. The diner’s first location is at 19790 I-45, Spring.

How new Harris County Sheriff’s Office district boundaries will impact Spring, Klein areas

For the first time in about two decades, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office is reconfiguring its patrol districts.

Capt. Mike Koteras, who is overseeing the new Spring-area District 1, said reducing each district’s geographic area will:
  • Allow for a greater concentration of deputies in each district
  • Reduce radio traffic on each district’s channel
  • Reduce response times for calls for service
This change will also allow for more strategic patrolling of violent crime hotspots such as the FM 1960 and I-45 corridor, he said.

Cypress Forest PUD proposes $12.3M bond to acquire Raveneaux Country Club property

A $12.3 million bond referendum in the Cypress Forest Public Utility District went before voters in May, earning approximately 95% of votes in favor, according to Community Impact’s election coverage.

The bond proposed a land swap between the PUD and the Harris County Flood Control District, as well as additional detention infrastructure along Cypress Creek in Spring. The two entities entered an interlocal agreement Aug. 6 for the development of five detention ponds along the watershed, according to HCFCD documents.

Frontier Airlines announces 8 new routes from IAH airport

Starting in late November, Houston travelers flying on Frontier Airlines will have new routes from George Bush Intercontinental Airport, or IAH.

The Denver-based airline company announced the following new IAH domestic and international routes launching in late 2025 through early 2026:
  • Baltimore: Nov. 20
  • Philadelphia: Nov. 21
  • Detroit: Nov. 21
  • Fort Lauderdale, Florida: Nov. 22
  • Guatemala City: Dec. 18
  • San Salvador, El Salvador: Dec. 19
  • San Pedro Sula, Honduras: Dec. 20
  • New Orleans: Feb. 13, 2026

Klein ISD teachers to receive $1.4K-$5K raise beginning in 2025-26 school year

During a June 24 meeting, Klein ISD’s board of trustees unanimously approved the employee raise package ranging from $1,400-$5,000 as well as one-time retention incentives for the 2025-26 school year.

Texas’ nearly 9,000 public schools will see an $8.5 billion funding boost over the next two years after Gov. Greg Abbott signed House Bill 2 into law June 4, as previously reported by Community Impact. Nearly half of that funding will be spent on raises for educators and support staff, such as bus drivers, janitors and librarians.

Harris County commissioners formally adopt FY 2025-26 property tax rate increase

Harris County commissioners unanimously approved an increase in the county’s fiscal year 2025-26 no-new-revenue property tax rate during the Nov. 4 court meeting.

The county’s tax rate document states the no-new-revenue tax rate will raise more taxes for maintenance and operations than last year’s tax rate. The 0.55% increase will raise taxes on a $100,000 home by approximately $2.42, the document states.

Los Cucos Mexican Cafe slated to open new location in Spring

Los Cucos Mexican Cafe is set to open a new location in the City Place development in Spring, according to filings with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. An opening date has not been confirmed as of press time.

The Los Cucos Mexican Cafe menu features fajitas, nachos, quesadillas and tacos, among other Tex-Mex classics. The restaurant has several locations, including in Cy-Fair, The Woodlands, Montgomery and Katy, according to the website.

Severe storms, tornado cause damage across northern Harris County

A line of severe thunderstorms moved across the northern portion of Greater Houston Nov. 24, with a majority of the damage spread across Harris County Precinct 3.

According to the National Weather Service, several tornado watches and warnings were issued across the region due to at least one confirmed tornado, which impacted the Jersey Village, Spring and Klein areas.

The tornado watch, which was extended to 1 a.m. on Nov. 25, was allowed to expire by the NWS following the second wave of storms that moved across the region late in the evening Nov. 24.

Klein ISD approves new district calendar for 2026-27 school year

The new Klein ISD calendar for the 2026-27 school year—which closely mirrors the current 2025-26 calendar—was unanimously selected by the district’s board of trustees during its Nov. 10 meeting.

Trustees selected Option A for the 2026-27 school year, which will begin Aug. 12, 2026, and end May 28, 2027, according to Nov. 10 meeting documents. Commonalities between the new and current calendars include:
  • Five-day fall, Thanksgiving and spring breaks for staff and students in October, November and March, respectively
  • 12-day winter breaks for students and 10-day winter breaks for teachers in late December-early January
  • Five-day mid-winter breaks for students and two-day mid-winter breaks in February
  • First day of school on the second Wednesday in August
  • Last day of school May 28
