Ground has broken on the first multitenant office building in the CityPlace development at Springwoods Village, developers announced Monday. The Patrinely Group, USAA Real Estate and CDC Houston announced the groundbreaking for the 149,600-square-foot CityPlace 1 building located at 1700 City Plaza Drive, Spring. CityPlace is a 60-acre, mixed-use development near the ExxonMobil campus consisting of a planned 4 million square feet of office space, 400,000 square feet of retail space and a full-service Marriott Hotel. Construction on CityPlace 1 is expected to be complete in the second quarter of 2019. The building will include 122,700 square feet of office space and 26,900 square feet of ground-floor retail space, according to the developers. “CityPlace 1 is another major milestone as CityPlace continues to become the new urban center in north Houston,” said Robert Fields, president and CEO of Patrinely Group. Other tenants confirmed for CityPlace include the American Bureau of Shipping—which will completely occupy the CityPlace 2 building expected to open later this year—the Mariott CityPlace hotel and CityPlace Plaza, a public gathering space, said Chrissy Wilson, executive vice president of JLL, a real estate and investment management firm leading the office leasing for CityPlace 1. CityPlace 1 will house small- to medium-size tenants, Wilson said. It is located across from the hotel and from CityPlace 2.
