Flood relief, including Hurricane Harvey recovery efforts, will have a high priority in the upcoming 86th legislative session, according to state representatives and senators representing the Spring and Klein area. Money for Harvey recovery efforts could come from the state’s Rainy Day Fund, legislators have said.
Bills filed relating to flood control include Senate Bill 179, which would establish a task force to study flood control infrastructure for Harris County; and House Bill 478, which relates to the funding of state flood planning, mitigation and infrastructure projects, and establishes criteria for eligibility for flood control planning money.
Meanwhile, Sen. Paul Bettencourt, R-Houston, said he is pushing for the construction of a third reservoir in the West Houston area, while Rep. Sam Harless, R-Spring, said he is working with the county on bills related to flood mitigation.
