Spring ISD reports that 279 evacuees were housed at Spring High School and 150 at Westfield High School on Monday night. On Tuesday afternoon, 458 evacuees were housed at SHS and 100 at WHS.

"We were able to provide meals and a safe, comfortable place for them to spend the night," SISD Communications Director Karen Garrison said. "We are so grateful to our community for stepping up on short notice and donating food and essentials to both shelters."

SISD still in need of bottled water, unopened nonperishable food, clean sleeping bags, new pillows, clean towels, unopened toiletries, disposable baby diapers, baby formula, baby wipes, hand sanitizer, disinfecting wipes, clean socks and phone chargers, Garrison said.

Garrison said principals of schools in the hardest hit areas are reaching out to families directly to learn that their needs are.

"We are also starting to look at ways that we can help students and families maintain normalcy after the storm is over—ways that we can help students, who have been displaced by the storm, get back into their school with the classes and teachers they know," she said.

Klein ISD has created a webpage to keep the community updated about donation needs and the status of its shelters at kisd.us/kleinspirit.
