What started as a garage hobby between brothers-in-law Stephen Daulong and Arrian Brantley has grown into Mad Llama Brewing, a hometown brewery that opened last June in Spring.

“It started off with us just hanging out drinking beer, and then it super escalated from there. So we started off just brewing once every couple months, to almost brewing every single week,” Brantley said. “Eventually, we took over half my garage and put in eight tap beer towers in my kitchen, and then at that point we're like, ‘Well, we're doing this all the time anyway.’”

The inspiration

Born and raised in the Spring-Klein area, Daulong said he graduated from Klein High School and the University of Houston, while Brantley has been a resident for over 24 years.

After brewing beer together for fun, the two developed and perfected over 100 recipes. Today, they are the local brewers serving handcrafted beers at Mad Llama Brewing.

The brewery aims to promote community engagement with weekly events including steak night, ladies night, bingo, trivia and live music. The brewery also supports local vendors and has 16 rotating food trucks on-site.

Respecting the craft

With a process that can take several months, Mad Llama Brewery offers 12 rotating craft beers including the Elder Llama Double IPA, Honey Llama Lager, Peanut Oatmeal Llama Stout and the Amber Llama, Daulong’s personal favorite.

The two brewers said they are most proud of the Amber Llama and Oh My Llama Bock, which won awards on Untappd, a mobile application designed for the beer community.

In addition to beer, the brewery also offers handcrafted hard seltzers with seven types of flavored syrups to choose from and a nonalcoholic root beer.
