Before she became the owner of Grace’s Nutrition Market last August, Michelle Garcia was a customer. In addition, she worked at the Spring Cypress Road store part-time for three years in the mid-2000s.

Garcia said her mother first introduced her to products like those sold at Grace’s Nutrition Market in the 1980s. Garcia said she was initially skeptical but later noticed improvements in how she felt.

“[My mother] brought home carob chips, and we were like, ‘What is this?’” Garcia said, referring to the chocolate alternative. “Then I would go [eat fast food] and come home feeling sick and say, ‘Mom, I think what you were giving us was really good.’”

Garcia said after her part-time job there ended, she constantly read books on health, nutrition, essential oils and other topics.

Garcia said the market sells a variety of products including multivitamins, essential oils, supplements and other products that are aimed at addressing the well-being of customers.

The store also has a kitchen where smoothies and juices are prepared. Garcia said she would like to sell sandwiches and salads in the future. In addition, Garcia offers a meal prepping service, where she prepares multiple days’ worth of meals for customers, who pick the meals up on Sunday.

Garcia said she has plans to continue adding to the services the market offers, while also updating the interior of the 40-year-old market, but her goal will remain the same.

“What I love is learning about health and nutrition and helping people,” Garcia said. “When people walk in the door and say, ‘I don’t have acid reflux anymore [because of] what we did, and I’m watching what I’m eating.’ There’s nothing better than that.”
