After moving to the area six months ago, brothers Dave and Paul Martin wanted to bring their favorite New England seafood dishes to Texas. Their first Greater Houston area venture, Cape Cod Cafe, opened today on Kuykendahl Road.
Dave Martin, an executive chef, has operated restaurants in Massachusetts and Florida in the past, and moved to the Houston area with the intention of starting a new business here, said general manager Dawn Schorre.
Schorre said the brothers hope to open a second location in The Woodlands within the next year.
The restaurant's signature item is a lobster roll, featuring fresh chunks of lobster meat on a grilled New England roll with lettuce, tomato, french fries and cole slaw ($20).
The cafe also sells cod, clam, scallop and tuna rolls, New England clam chowder, lobster bisque and a selection of other sandwiches and salads. Fried seafood, steak, prime rib, baked dishes including a seafood casserole, and whole lobsters are also on the menu.
"All of our seafood is cold water seafood from New England water," Schorre said.
The restaurant will receive deliveries twice a week with lobsters from Maine and cod, clams, shrimp and other seafood from Boston.
