Coming soon: The Cajun Stop, located at 2130 Jefferson St., Houston, plans to open a second store in Spring, at the current Tamale Pot location, 24230 Kuykendahl Road, Ste. 250, on July 22.

Under its new ownership and name, the restaurant will continue to offer popular Mexican dishes that The Tamale Pot has become known for but has already begun to transition the menu to new Cajun offerings.

Crawfish and catfish tacos and crawfish tamales are among the dishes owner Lisa Carnley plans to offer, mixing flavors and ingredients from the two cuisines. The new menu will feature Cajun favorites like boudin balls, meat pies, gumbo, red beans and shrimp po’boys. It will offer delivery within a 5-mile radius.

Carnley said she lives closer to Spring than the downtown site and was looking for a new location that was closer to home. She has operated The Cajun Stop for seven years.

The restaurant is still open as The Tamale Pot, but Carnley said she is gradually adding new fare and the shop will officially change over July 22.

“I don’t want to scare away the current customers,” Carnley said. “When people come in, we’re introducing ourselves as the new owners. We’ll keep all of their tamales, tostadas and tacos.”
