The filing deadline for candidates in the upcoming March primary elections was Dec. 11. Spring and Klein residents will vote on candidates to represent Texas Senate District 7, House District 126, House District 150, U.S. Congressional District 18 and U.S. Congressional District 2 as well as Harris County judge and Precinct 4 commissioner.

The latest

Instead of running for re-election, District 126 Rep. Kevin Roberts, R-Spring, has opted to run for U.S. Congressional District 2. Incumbents Harris County Judge Ed Emmett and Precinct 4 Commissioner Jack Cagle are running unopposed for the Republican nominations in their respective races, while two candidates are running for the Democratic nomination the race for Precinct 4 commissioner.

What’s next

Primary elections are held March 6, and general elections will take place Nov. 6. Candidates who win positions for the state Legislature will go to Austin in 2019 for the 86th regular legislative session. Editor's note: In our print edition we wrote that two Democratic candidates will run in the primary election for Harris County judge, but since that story was written one of the candidates has withdrawn.
