The Cy-Fair Sports Association, a nonprofit organization catering to the Cypress area, debuted several new fields this fall as a part of a recent expansion project.
Improvements at the CFSA sports complex on Schiel Road include three new baseball fields, three new all-purpose fields, bleachers, concession stands, restrooms and stadium lights at several fields to allow for more evening games.
October marked the first time football was played at the Schiel Road Sports Complex and not on a Cy-Fair ISD field, CFSA officials said.
The new fields were funded largely through a series of fundraisers organized by Louetta Automotive, a car care shop that opened its first location in Cypress.
For the past two years around fall, Louetta Automotive has provided local football players and cheerleaders with $50 gift certificates to sell to people in the community for $10 with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the CFSA. The recent expansion was funded with the roughly $100,000 raised in 2013, when more than 10,000 gift cards were sold. Another $100,000 was raised this year, Louetta Automotive's marketing manager Devann Blake said.
"The fundraiser follows in line with our mission to make a difference in our communities," Blake said. "There are 1,600 players in the CFSA, and we want to be able to help and support them."
The CFSA offers leagues in football, baseball, cheerleading, lacrosse, volleyball, basketball and soccer. The Schiel Road facilities formerly consisted of four high-school-sized baseball fields and two multi-use fields used for football and lacrosse. Henry Milton, chairman of CFSA's football program, said getting new fields was vital, especially for football and baseball, which have seen participation rise.
Blake said Louetta Automotive hopes to continue the partnership moving forward.
"The goal is to have the partnership for many years to come," she said.
