In an effort to prepare for the effects from Hurricane Harvey, the city of Richmond’s Emergency Operations Center will be open around the clock starting 7 p.m. Friday.

Hurricane Harvey recently strengthened to a Category 2 storm and is expected to make landfall Friday afternoon, according to ABC 13. Ten to 15 inches of rain are expected between now and Tuesday.

“We expect Hurricane Harvey to be a major hurricane at landfall tomorrow evening in the mid-Texas coast,” city officials said in a press release.

The city advises residents to:

  • Tie down outside furniture, lawn tools or anything that could be projected in high winds

  • Stock up on water, gas, food, prescriptions and batteries

  • Check in with neighbors

  • Do not drive on flooded roadways
