Richmond city officials, commissioners, community members and Mayor Evalyn Moore celebrated the official opening of Freeman Town Park and the Wessendorff Park Trail System with a Central Fort Bend Chamber ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday at 7th and Burnet streets.

Freeman Town Park is a project the city has worked on for the last several years in an effort to serve the Freeman Town community, according to city officials. Freeman Town Park is the city’s sixth park.

“The people in Freeman Town have wanted that park for a number of years, and it’s only been recently that the land was donated for that reason so that we could build the park finally and I am just very happy about it,” Moore said. “I am happy for them and I am happy for the city of Richmond.”

A second ribbon cutting was conducted at Wessendorff Park to celebrate the opening of the new trails connecting north Richmond to the park and historic district.
