Amid some furry friends, Fort Bend County Commissioners approved several agenda items during the regularly scheduled Commissioners Court meeting Tuesday at the historic courthouse. Here are five key takeaways from the meeting:
- County Judge Robert Hebert proclaimed Aug. 19-20 Clear the Shelter Days in Fort Bend County. Staff from Fort Bend County Animal Services, along with three animals available for adoption, were honored for their efforts with the proclamation. Fort Bend County Animal Services is partnering with NBC Telemundo for the adoption event.
“NBC Telemundo will work with Fort Bend County Animal Services with the goal of helping place homeless animals into loving, lifelong homes on Aug, 19 and 20, 2017,” Hebert said.
Since the start of 2017, Fort Bend County Animal Services has placed more than 1,200 animals into homes through its pet adoption campaign.
“That’s 1,200 animals since the first of the year; that’s great work,” Hebert said.
- Commissioners approved an affiliation agreement between Fort Bend County and the University of Houston College of Nursing that will allow registered students to study under Fort Bend County Health and Human Services Staff.
- A new pavilion will be constructed at Bates Allen Park after commissioners approved an agreement between Fort Bend County and Apex Consulting Group for $8,545. The total contract is $122,685.
- The Fort Bend County Jail and Sheriff’s Office Patrol Building will receive roof replacements after commissioners approved to take action on an $266,875 agreement between Fort Bend County and Remedy Roofing, Inc.
- During the Fort Bend County Drainage District board of directors meeting, commissioners approved submission of the 2017 tax year appraisal and new property values for the Fort Bend County Drainage District.
In a submission of the 2017 tax year appraisal roll, Tax Assessor/Collector Patsy Schultz reported the taxable value of new property in Fort Bend County is $1.9 billion, the appraised value of all properties is $85 billion and the taxable value of all properties is $62 billion.
