The Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department announced June 27 the selection of its next fire chief. The CFVFD board of directors chose Amy Ramon out of a pool of more than 50 applicants.
Ramon has served with CFVFD for 24 years. Her roles in the past have included assistant chief of EMS, fire-EMS lieutenant, paramedic, firefighter and dispatcher. Ramon has also served as general manager of Harris County Emergency Services District No. 9 since 2002.
Top applicants participated in an intensive interview process that included an all-day assessment, district officials said. The selection of a new chief comes on the heels of changes in how the district operates.
"Our community has experienced significant growth over the last 50 years and is expected to grow even more in the near future," read an official release from the department. "Recognizing this, our department has undergone significant change over the last year, including changing our by-laws and electing a new board of directors. We are confident Amy is the right person to face the challenges and opportunities ahead."
Ramon is taking the place of Rodney Janczak, who served as the interim fire chief since 2013. Joe Davis served as the department's previous fire chief from 2002–13. Davis was also the department's first full-time fire chief, which he became in 2009.
Ramon will officially assume her responsibilities as fire chief July 25.
