The sewer project on Hughes Ranch Road, which was scheduled to wrap up in September, has been delayed by underground conditions and is now scheduled to wrap up in November.

The contractor is expediting the project at his own expense, according to the city of Pearland.

Portions of the road have been closed since late May, as the city has moved construction vehicles and equipment and done construction on the sewer line.

The project will convert Hughes Ranch Road from a two- to a four-lane road with a median and curbs from Smith Ranch Road to Cullen Parkway. The road will also provide improved access to the Hwy. 288 toll lanes, according to a city of Pearland document.

The overall project is scheduled to wrap up in July 2021. The project began in January 2019, with road closures beginning in May.

Hughes Ranch Road construction is expected to cost $18 million and is funded by state and federal funds.
