Pearland and Friendswood-area transportation projects are making progress. Here are four to know about for October 2018.
Current projects
- CR 59 at CR 48 signaling
Temporary signals were installed at this intersection in Pearland in August, replacing four-way stop signs. Permanent signals will be installed after a CR 59 widening project in 2022, officials said.

CR 59 at CR 94 improvements
Brazoria County has completed engineering work for intersection and street improvements to help support a proposed retail development. The work will involve adding turning lanes and aligning the different roadways that comprise CR 59/Magnolia Parkway, which were all built at different times, county engineer Matt Hanks said. The project is now waiting for the retail developer to move forward.

Hughes Ranch Road widening
The Hughes Ranch Road project in Pearland went out for bids in early September, and construction is slated to start in December. A two-lane asphalt road with open ditches, this roadway will be upgraded to a four-lane concrete street with curbs and gutters from Cullen Boulevard to Smith Ranch Road. The project will include signals at Miller Ranch and Bryan Court and a 9-foot-tall concrete noise barrier spanning 13,000 feet.

Hwy. 35 corridor enhancements
Landscape Art Inc. began work in September to bring intersection and roadway updates to Hwy. 35 from Broadway Street to Beltway 8. When finished, the highway will feature Pearland branding, similar to the signs along Kirby Drive and Pearland Parkway. The project is fully funded by the Pearland Economic Development Corporation.
