Two new Pearland area road projects are either underway or are about to be. Here's the latest on both. Max Road expansion Construction is on schedule for the project, which stretches from Hughes Ranch Road to Reid Boulevard at Broadway Street in Pearland. A temporary detour road was finished at the end of February. The roadway will be four lanes, divided, with curb and gutters, including storm sewers, outfalls and detention. The project is about 80 percent funded by the federal Transportation Improvement Program. Timeline: January-September Cost: $7.98 million Funding source: Federal Highway Administrations, city of Pearland Hughes Ranch Road widening Pearland City Council amended the design contract for the Hughes Ranch Road widening project Feb. 26. The amendment includes a right-turn lane in front of Challenger Elementary School, a cost-effective sound wall design and additional work to coordinate with the Texas Department of Transportation. The lane provides additional space for pickup and drop-off traffic outside of through-traffic lanes. The TxDOT wall was estimated to cost $6 million and the alternate is estimated to cost $2.5 million, saving the city $3.5 million. Pearland’s share of the total cost is $13.28 million.
