1. The Centennial Park soccer field will be named after former mayor David Smith
The council voted to name the Centennial Park soccer field after the former mayor. According to Council Member Sally Branson, Smith was instrumental in getting soccer programs into the local high schools. Council members Jim Hill and John Scott voted against the motion.

“I don’t think he treated Friendswood kids fair,” Hill said.

The final vote was 4-2, with council members Scott and Hill against the motion. Council member Mike Foreman was absent.

2. Woodlawn Drive is complete
The transportation project was presented to the council as complete last night. Construction on the project started in late June. The stretch of Woodlawn Drive from West Shadowbend Avenue to FM 2351 was repaved from asphalt to concrete.

3. Friendswood City Manager Roger Roecker is retiring in early 2018
Roecker announced at the meeting that he will be retiring from his position as city manager in April.

“I will continue to do everything I can to continue to make this special city the city that it is,” Roecker said.

Roecker will have worked with the city for 29 years in February, serving as director of finance, director of administrative services and city manager. In February, Roecker will have served as city manager for 10 years.
