Alvin ISD scored higher than the state average on nearly all 2016 State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness exams, according to data released Monday.

AISD earned a districtwide Met Standard rating with no campuses earning a Needs Improvement rating.

End-of-course exams for high school students included algebra I, biology, English I, English II and U.S. history.

Statewide algebra I scores reflect an 81 percent satisfactory rating, while AISD scores were 85 percent satisfactory. AISD scored 1 percent higher than the state average in biology and matched the state average in U.S. history with a 92 and 94 percent satisfactory rating, respectively.

English I and II test scores were each 3 percent lower than the state average with a 60 and 63 percent satisfactory rating, respectively.

Among grades three through eight, all students took the reading and math STAAR tests. Statewide, sixth graders scored lowest with a 71 percent satisfactory rating in reading, and eighth graders scored the highest with an 82 percent satisfactory rating. In AISD, seventh graders scored the lowest with a 70 percent satisfactory rating, and eighth graders scored the highest with an 82 percent satisfactory rating.

AISD fourth graders scored 3 percent higher on the STAAR writing exam than the state average with a 72 percent satisfactory rating, while seventh graders scored 7 percent lower than the state average at 63 percent.

In social studies and science, eighth grade scores in AISD were 59 percent and 77 percent satisfactory, respectively. AISD eighth graders scored 6 percent lower in social studies and 1 percent higher in science than the state average. AISD fifth graders scored 9 percent higher than the state average in science with an 84 percent satisfactory rating.
