Alvin ISD has decided to close schools the week of March 16-20 in response to the Coronavirus outbreak in the Greater Houston area.
“We feel that this extended closure will provide an opportunity to gain a better understanding of how COVID-19 will impact our community and allow time to work in close partnership with various authorities to limit the spread of the virus,” Superintendent Carol Nelson said in a press release.
All student and staff travel will be cancelled and all campus and community events will be postponed until further notice.
The district recommends that parents monitor their email accounts for updates from the district and their children’s campuses and teachers.
The district will remain in touch with health authorities as it makes decisions going forward, according to the press release.
“Please know we are working diligently to make the decisions that are in the best interest of those we are called to serve,” Nelson said.
