Paired with that, City Council is also expected to approve the city’s newest tax rate at that meeting as well, officials said Sept. 4.

Manvel City Council held a public hearing on the city’s newest budget on Sept. 4, which nobody spoke at.
State law requires a city to take action on a budget after a public hearing is held, city officials said at the meeting. However, there is no specification as to what that action has to be. As a result, City Council opted to approve the date the budget will receive a final vote.
The budget presented for the public hearing was the same one presented Aug. 1, according to city documents. The budget calls for roughly $15.7 million in revenue and expenses, resulting in an expected balanced budget.
Meanwhile, the tax rate expected is $0.56 per $100 valuation of a home, which is the same as last year but higher than the city’s no new revenue rate of $0.507231, according to city documents. The difference will mean around $1 million more in revenue for the city.
City documents show a home valued at $300,000 will pay $1,680 in taxes to the city, according to city documents.
