As Pearland budget talks continue, transportation and capital improvement projects as well as salary increases for staff were discussed at a recent budget workshop.

The gist

On Aug. 19, Pearland City Council met to discuss the city’s proposed budget which includes a proposed tax rate of $0.6350, which is higher than the city’s no-new revenue rate of $0.599536.

Community Impact previously reported that the proposed budget would include a 7% revenue increase for the city. The proposed budget also includes a 4.3% increase in proposed expenses.


What else?


City staff also highlighted some of the major street and capital improvement projects the city will fund this fiscal year, including:
  • $1.48 million for Pearland Parkway at the Broadway Street intersection
  • $9.55 million for Hughes Road from Pearland Parkway to the city limit
  • $7 million for Phase 2 of the Broadway Street expansion from Old Chocolate Bayou to McClean Road
  • $6.75 million for FM 518 utility relocations from SH 288 to Old Chocolate Bayou
  • $5.1 million for Wood Creek transit water line replacement
  • $5.8 million Creekview and Shadycrest water line replacement
  • $9.78 million for improvements to the Barry Rose Water Reclamation facility

City Council will have a third budget discussion on Aug. 26 ahead of the budget’s first reading on Sept. 9.
