The gist
On July 24, the drainage district announced it would be conducting a survey on residents' experience with natural hazards to help with future planning efforts, according to a social media post.
The survey feedback will help guide the development of the district’s hazard mitigation plan, which is due for its five-year renewal in January, district staff said.
The survey, which will be conducted through the remainder of the summer, asked respondents questions similar to the following:
- What type of hazards have you experienced in the past five years?
- How concerned are you about hazards in your area?
- What preparations have you made for potential hazards?
- Which hazards have damaged your home?
- What are the most effective channels, such as TV or social media, for sharing information about hazards?
- Is your home located in a FEMA-designated floodplain?
What else?
Community Impact previously reported that University of Houston and Texas Southern University conducted a study in July which found that most Texas respondents had done something to prepare for hurricane season, and only 0.13% had yet to do anything to prepare.
