Brazoria Drainage District 4 is conducting an online survey to obtain residents' input on their experience with natural hazards, such as drought, flooding and ice.

The gist

On July 24, the drainage district announced it would be conducting a survey on residents' experience with natural hazards to help with future planning efforts, according to a social media post.

The survey feedback will help guide the development of the district’s hazard mitigation plan, which is due for its five-year renewal in January, district staff said.

The survey, which will be conducted through the remainder of the summer, asked respondents questions similar to the following:
  • What type of hazards have you experienced in the past five years?
  • How concerned are you about hazards in your area?
  • What preparations have you made for potential hazards?
  • Which hazards have damaged your home?
  • What are the most effective channels, such as TV or social media, for sharing information about hazards?
  • Is your home located in a FEMA-designated floodplain?
The district did not confirm a specific date for when the survey will close this summer.

What else?

Community Impact previously reported that University of Houston and Texas Southern University conducted a study in July which found that most Texas respondents had done something to prepare for hurricane season, and only 0.13% had yet to do anything to prepare.
