While Pearland hoped to have its new surface water treatment plant operational by January, the plant isn’t expected to pump water until this summer when city officials hope to receive state authorization.

The backstory

City officials are waiting for the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to authorize pumping water at the plant, which should happen in either June or July, Pearland Communications Director Josh Lee said.

Community Impact previously reported the $175 million surface water treatment plant will eventually pump 10 million gallons of water per day for Pearland.

One more thing

Once operational, the plant will send the water to pumping stations on Kirby Drive and FM 521 where it will be pumped throughout the city, according to the city’s website.
