Pearland ISD will have one competitive race, as two of the three open seats saw no challengers to the incumbents, according to the district’s website.

Alvin ISD, meanwhile, will have four competitive races, with open seats having multiple challengers to incumbents, according to an email from the district.

What you need to know

Feb. 16 was the last day to file in Texas to run for local races set to appear on the May 4 ballot, according to both Pearland ISD and Alvin ISD’s websites.

For PISD, Position 6, which is currently held by Robert Richter, will be the lone competitive race for the district for the May 4 election, according to election filings posted on the district’s website.


Richter will not be running for re-election. He was appointed last year to fill a vacancy when trustee Lance Botkin resigned from the board in June.

According to election filings, the two candidates challenging one another for Position 6 are Jenny Francis, an Air Force veteran who has lived in the district for a little over 15 years, and Terrence Campbell, a pastor who has lived in the district for 32 years.

For Alvin ISD, positions 1, 2, 3 and 7 will have competitive races. Cheryl Harris, the current trustee for Position 3, will not be running for re-election, according to an email from the district.

These are the following candidates for all open seats at Alvin ISD. An asterisk indicates they are the incumbent:

For PISD, position 3 and 4 are set to appear on the ballot in May, according to the district’s website. However, only the incumbents—Crystal Carbone for Position 3 and Sean Murphy for Position 4—filed by the Feb. 16 deadline.

PISD will also have a bond election for $105 million on the ballot in May.
