The city of Pearland will have just one competitive race in May for City Council, while Friendswood, barring a write-in candidate, will have no competitive races, according to officials from both cities.

What you need to know

The deadline to file as a candidate for the upcoming May 4 city council elections was Feb. 16. Those who filed in Pearland include:
  • Tony Carbone for City Council Position 2
  • Clint Byrom and Veronica Kreuder Longoria for City Council Position 4
Longoria previously ran for City Council Position 4 in the city’s special election held Dec. 9 but was defeated by candidate Chad Thumann.

For Friendswood, nobody has filed for the mayor’s office and City Council positions. As such, unless someone files as a write-in candidate by 5 p.m. Feb. 20, each candidate is considered unopposed, said Glenda Faulkner, Friendswood public information officer.

Candidates up for re-election this year are:
  • Mike Foreman for mayor
  • John Ellisor for City Council Position 1
  • Trish Hank for City Council Position 3
