In fiscal year 2023-24, Friendswood homeowners will pay a tax rate that is 2.7% higher than last year.

The gist

On Sept. 11, Friendswood City Council voted to ratify a tax rate of $0.5007 per $100 valuation.

In fiscal year 2020-21, City Council adopted the city's lowest tax rate of $0.487314 per $100 valuation, which the city maintained until this year.

The tax rate increase will provide an estimated $25 million for operations and maintenance as well as interest and sinking funds that service voter-approved general obligation bonds, City Manager Morad Kabiri said.

Quote of note

“This is the second-lowest tax rate we’ve ever had in the city: $0.50,” Mayor Mike Foreman said.
