Friendswood will address needed improvements to the city’s water system with two projects.

City Council authorized an agreement with Garver, LLC, for engineering and technical services for the design, bidding and construction of two projects during its Jan. 9 meeting. Garver presented to Friendswood City Council on Oct. 3, 2022, a list of water-related projects it identified as needs for the city. Friendswood will now be moving forward on two projects included in that update.

The Clear Creek Crossing project was identified as Friendswood’s highest priority capacity-driven project, according to agenda documents. This project will add a water line parallel to the existing transmission line along East Edgewood Drive. Successful completion will improve the flow of water from Surface Water Plant 2 to Elevated Storage Tank 2 and resolve transmission capacity deficiencies.

The second project will add a new 0.5 million-gallon ground storage tank to replace the existing one, yard piping and pump replacements to Surface Water Plant 1. A larger tank may be added if the site design allows. Along with replacing a structurally deficient tank, this project will increase the plant’s pumping capacity and balance water distribution between Surface Water Plant 1 and Surface Water Plant 2.

Funding for the $1.2 million investment in these projects will come from American Rescue Plan Act dollars.
