The Texas General Land Office has approved $2.73 million in Hurricane Harvey funds to execute a buyout program for about 16 homes located in a floodplain or repetitive flood areas in the city of Pearland.

Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush said in a press release that the recovery funds are critical to protecting lives, homes and businesses from future storms, especially in places like Pearland that were affected by flooding during Harvey.

“We continue to work with our partners in communities across the region to leverage these resources efficiently and effectively to benefit Texans affected by Hurricane Harvey,” Bush said in the press release.

The $2.73 million is a part of the $413 million allocated by the General Land Office for infrastructure projects to protect communities across Texas that were affected by the storm.
