With all 34 voting centers reporting, unofficial voting results show Brazoria County commissioner, Precinct 1 race is headed to a runoff as no candidate received the majority of votes, unofficial results show.

Some candidates thanked voters for their support on social media and urged them to vote again in the runoff election, to be held May 28.

“Your support has not only inspired us but has also been pivotal in obtaining a significant lead as we head into the runoff,” leading candidate Jay Burridge said in a social media post. “We're filled with hope and determination, knowing that such a spirited and engaged community backs us.”

David Thacker, who is currently in second place, could not be reached for comment.

As of 11:05 p.m., with all 34 voting centers reporting, unofficial voting results show Brazoria County commissioner Precinct 1 race is headed to a runoff as no candidate received the majority of votes, unofficial results show.

The top vote-getter, Jay Burridge, has 40.26% of the votes, or 3,318 votes. David Thacker in second place has 28.77%, or 2,371 votes, unofficial results show.

Following them are Ted A. Broaddus with 23.56% of the votes, or 1,942 votes and Mike Meadors with 7.41% of the votes, or 611 votes.


Results are unofficial until canvassed. The top two vote-getters will face each other in a runoff in May.

As of 9:30 p.m., voting results for Brazoria County Precinct 1 commissioner show Jay Burridge leads with 42% of the votes, or 2,629 votes, with challenger David Thacker receiving 28.6%, or 1,790 votes.

Following them are Ted A. Broaddus with 22.29% of the votes, or 1,395 votes, and Mike Meadors with 7.11% of the votes, or 445 votes.

With polls having closed at 7 p.m., early unofficial election results show Jay Burridge in the lead in the race for Brazoria County Precinct 1 commissioner.

What you need to know

Results show Burridge with 42.85% of the total, or 2,348 votes, and challenger David Thacker next with 28.56%, or 1,565 votes, according to unofficial results posted by Brazoria County.


Following them are Ted A. Broaddus with 22.17% of the total, or 1,215 votes, and Mike Meadors with 6.42%, or 352 votes.

No Democrats ran in the Democratic primary for the position.

What else?


To win the nomination, one of the candidates will need the majority of the votes, officials with the Secretary of State’s Office said March 4. If no candidate secures the majority, a runoff between the top two vote-getters will be triggered. If needed, that race will take place May 28.
