Alvin ISD’s board of trustees approved the district’s sixth budget amendment, worth about $3.8 million, for fiscal year 2024-25 at its March 11 meeting.

The amendment includes expenses for tornado-related damage at Walt Disney Elementary School, upgrading campus furniture, technology and transportation, among other items, according to district agenda documents.

After the EF-2 tornado impacted Walt Disney Elementary School in late December, AISD officials expended funds that exceeded the district’s planned resources, according to district documents.

As a result, the board has approved allocating funds, which totals to nearly $577,000, for the emergency expenses required to address urgent needs from the tornado, district documents note.


Expenses include funding for instruction, the library, health services, maintenance and technology, according to district documents.

The board will also consider increasing the local revenue budget by over $1.7 million in order to pay for three pending invoices related to the tornado, according to district documents.

The board of trustees also approved budget amendments to replace the marching tower at Manvel High School, replace district phones and security cameras, and add more vehicles for student and faculty transportation, among other items, according to district documents.

The board also approved a transfer of over $44,000 from curriculum, counseling and extracurricular budget functions to purchase laptops for students at Alvin High School.
