Friendswood ISD’s average daily attendance, or ADA, rose over the fall semester between 1%-2% in each campus compared to the 2023-24 school year, according to a Jan. 15 news release from the district.

The overview

ADA is the sum of attendance for each day of the minimum number of days of instruction, divided by the minimum number of days of instruction, according to the Texas Education Agency.

The district is funded by the state based on ADA rates. For each 1% increase in attendance, FISD receives approximately $500,000 in additional funding, the news release notes.

According to the news release, FISD has implemented to following initiatives to promote attendance:
  • Campus presentations
  • Social media campaigns
  • Personalized outreach efforts
The trend marks the second year in a row the district saw an increase in its ADA, which was preceded by two years of decline, data shows.

Quote of note

“Our focus on improving attendance is about more than just numbers—it’s about investing in our students’ futures,” FISD Superintendent Thad Roher said in the news release. “When students are in school, they have greater academic success, experience improved social-emotional well-being and develop the skills necessary to succeed in adulthood.”
