Safety audit visits to half of Pearland ISD campuses during the 2024-25 school year resulted in two findings that needed to be corrected, officials said at the board of trustees Jan. 14 meeting.

The overview

During the fall, 12 out of 24 campuses were audited with 83% having zero findings, according to district agenda documents.

Two campuses, which were not disclosed, had findings, with one being an interior door locking issue, and the other being a paperwork omission. Both items have since been corrected, district documents note.

The background

The Texas School Safety Center, or TxSSC, through Region 4, annually conducts comprehensive intruder detection audits, or IDAs, to assess the security measures of school campuses, according to district agenda documents.

According to agenda documents, the IDAs consist of the following:
  • Intruder access check, in which an auditor attempts to enter the building unannounced
  • Exterior door audit, in which an auditor ensures every exterior door is locked
  • Weekly door sweep log checks
Outside of intruder audits, internal campus audits and drills are conducted on a routine basis, district documents note.
